Midnight blue hair is a color painted with dark blue and black hues that give off a mysterious and extra bold look. It’s perfect for gals with a slightly rebellious personality. If you’re obsessed with quirky fashion colors and standing out of the crowd, this daring blue-black shade should be your next hair goal!
Midnight Blue Hair Coloring Tips
Being a dark hue makes it a perfect match for any skin tone and lessens the maintenance necessary to keep a navy blue mane luscious and healthy-looking. This is proven by Colorado Springs hairstylist Sami with her many midnight blue hair creations!
Get hold of color-safe shampoos, conditioners, and moisturizing products like hair masks to keep your strands shimmering at all times! Also, take care of your hair’s moisture by reducing heat when styling because blue is not a natural hair color, causing damage to your mane.
Believe me when I say this sultry shade will take you to the stars for its heavenly beauty! Discover how to wear midnight blue hair after you read these expert tips and tricks on rocking this contemporary look.
#1: Metallic Blue at Midnight
Radioactive cerulean tones are an intergalactic look. Big barrel twists add areas for light deflection, emphasizing that glossy shine. Metallic coloring has become very popular, and it makes sense to add a touch.
#2: Gorgeous Black and Dark Blue Hair
If you want a bold change, consider opting for gorgeous black and dark blue hair for your long wavy locks. This striking color choice is perfect for those who want to make a statement. With the right shade, black and midnight blue can enhance darker skin tones. This gives you a vibrant and edgy look. Ensure that your hair is well-nourished and moisturized to get the most out of your color.
#3: Moonlight Blue
A moonlight blue hue is a beautiful choice for winter. If you’re working from home now, this is the perfect time to try a daring shade of blue. Ask your stylist to make an Olaplex B so that you can refresh your color at home between salon visits.
#4: Blue on Long Hair
The deep, dark blue gives some violet sheen to it. Longer hair tends to bring more drama with matching waves towards the ends.
#5: Ash Midnight Blue
It’s like it’s almost not there, is it? This smokey night blue gets the right kind of subtlety for a ‘less is more’ look. Adding some ash tones to midnight blue hair is like creating smoky eye shadow.
#6: Midnight to Light Blue Ombre
Black-blue ombre hair doesn’t scream vibrant but shows a certain bold demeanor. The royal blue ends make the underlying dark blue color more noticeable.
#7: Extra Dark at Midnight
Snow White would be proud that you’re rocking that ebony hair. The waves on chopped hair created a shine, adding that extra factor.
#8: Midnight Blue and Dark Brown Dip Dye
Still trying to decide what color to try out? Try dip dye of dark blue hair color! In this, blue ends pop out against brunette locks giving a minimalist vibe.
#9: Deep Midnight-Navy Blue
Now you can wear denim on your hair as well! This mix of midnight navy blue looks stunning on pinkish undertones, although anyone could try it out.
#10: Blue and Purple
What a dream it is to be an indigo child! Display daunting streaks of blue and purple for that straightforward appearance.
This hair coloring is a medium brown with blue-violet highlights. If you’re a mom of two very active children, you need a low-maintenance style, so try keeping your hair long and get routine trims, and that’s about it. Ponytails, buns, and braids are my favorite styles; occasionally, you can curl them for special occasions. It’s nice to have those options with beautiful long hair. What I love most about it is that it’s so vibrant but not overwhelming.
This hair color is great for someone who wants to have some fun with their hair but wants to dedicate to something other than the maintenance and cost of a full head of fashion color.
The vibrant highlights can also be done in any color, depending on one’s preference. Anyone thinking about doing this type of coloring will have to remember that the highlights require lightening before the fashion color can be added. Since this is a fashion color, it will fade and wash out anywhere from 4-6 weeks. This is a fun alternative to traditional highlights and would look great on anyone with any hair length.
#11: Blue and Silver
This denim blue color results from our search for a blue different from the one four years ago, yet it is trendy and goes well with fashion. It is an extremely fashionable color.
The midnight blue hair dye will fade off each time you shampoo your hair because it is not permanent. You may need to use a color shampoo or get creative by adding colors by yourself using color treatments. We recommend it to those who enjoy creating new hair and makeup styles.
#12: Short Midnight Blue Hair
The best thing about this black blue hair is honestly just the ease that goes along with styling. Pixie cuts seriously give me life. I love being able to see the client’s facial features. For instance, Lacey has the most beautifully shaped eyebrows, full lips, and the cutest freckles in this picture. Hiding behind a full head of hair doesn’t suit her. Also, I enjoyed this subtle charcoal blue we gave her! The charcoal contrast gives this midnight blue hair its edge.
This is a really easy style for someone very active and busy. We used Redken’s Velvet Gelatine 07 before blow drying to help smooth her out. After any paste or putty, even a dry texture spray would give the style a bit of texture!
#13: Blue Bob
This short blue hair is edgy. The haircut is a sleek bob with clean lines, zero graduation, and the tiniest undercut to give it movement. Cobalt blue is achieved with Schwarzkopf lightener and Pravana hair color. This style is for clients that aren&rsquot afraid to play around with a bit of color and are willing to take the proper steps to maintain this gorgeous blue.
While this is a high-maintenance color, using the proper products will ensure the color lasts. I highly recommend protecting your hair color with a color shampoo like Redken Color Magnetics and a colored post-shampoo treatment like Joico Color Butter in Blue.
#14: Blue and Black Balayage
What I love about this color is that it’s midnight blue, but as soon as she enters direct sunlight, it’s bright purple with hints of blue! I love teaching my clients how to style like this because it takes less than 10 minutes and makes them feel like they just left the salon every time they do it!
My tip for clients who want this dark blue hair dye is to be prepared to wash their hair in cold water once a week and be ready to maintain this color. This color reminds me of someone who wants to be known and isn’t afraid to make a statement.
#15: Shoulder Length Blue Hair
This color was a dream color of my client. She started with dark natural hair, and her dream was to get a blue – not a Marge Simpson type of blue but more of a darker midnight blue. I thought of a dark-lit sky like in the middle of the night, so I gave her a balayage keeping her natural base and neutralizing any yellow on my client’s hair. I used Pulpriot semi-permanent colors, Nightfall (Blue) and a wee bit of Noir (Black), to create my version of a midnight blue. She fell in love instantly, and with such an exciting color, I had to give her a Viking-style braid and curls to take home. A crown fit for a queen, she never felt more like herself. My favorite thing about this look is it’s subtle but bold enough to make a statement.
Understand that you must be lifted to a cool blonde before your blue deposit. Many stylists and clients tend to put blue on top of yellow-blonde hair but fail to realize that blue and yellow make green, and green hair can be heartbreaking to someone looking for the perfect blue. Have your blonde toned out previously, so all the yellow is canceled and neutralized so you can deposit this color.
Also, remember that these fashion semi-permanent colors only last about 4-6 weeks, give or take. They also require high maintenance (avoiding swimming and hot tubs, for the chemicals and salts in the water can alter the color). These colors are very fun, and the best part is that once faded, you can keep up with your favorite color, switch it up, or enjoy the blonde canvas after the fading.
#16: Deep Blue
I call this midnight blue hair – This “blue-black” allows you to wear the black look without being so drab. Most women want to change their hair from blonde to an all-over dark but also hate losing that touch of dimension. This does that for you! I love this midnight blue look because it screams – classy but edgy. Dark but not so drab.
Any client can pull dark midnight blue hair color off. But it stands out among those girls with that edgy style and women with pale skin and blue eyes! It pops against their skin. The long bob here also adds that classy but not too spunky attitude that the color alone can create, especially if the cut was to be shorter than this. These looks can be created easily by your stylist! Go for it!
#17: Midnight Weave
This look is a partial weave/extensions with a middle part. Only a small amount of her hair is left at the top to cover the extensions. The color is on the extensions, not her real hair. I used 2 different shades of blue. I bleached the extensions 1st and then used 2 semi-permanent blues.
#18: For Curly Hair
This is midnight blue curly hair! All the gloss and shine of your hair are now in a funk color.
